Today, after years of writing poems
celebrating undeserved good luck, filling in the sonnet-box with the beauty of strong coffee and the hopefulness of spring gardens, etc., moving toward the final couplet of poorly focused gratitude, I had to stop.
You know, none of my treasures arrive
by luck, goodies bestowed by the random cosmic hand. Instead they are the bountiful dividends of systemic racism. How now? I can’t unread. Perhaps I can reform! Just give me a minute to finish my Wordle.
